About Wednesday & Tim Burton
Wednesday and Tim Burton posters: black braids, a cello in the rain, Nevermore Academy, Thing and black-and-white stripes. A violet, moonlit mood.
Two tight braids, a white collar on a black dress and a stare that never blinks. Wednesday Addams is recognisable from her outline alone, which is exactly why a Wednesday poster works so well. Add Tim Burton's stripes and spirals and you have the most playful corner of gothic culture.
From cartoon panel to Netflix
The Addams Family began in Charles Addams's cartoons for The New Yorker in the late 1930s and has been reinvented many times since, including Christina Ricci's deadpan Wednesday in the 1991 film. Netflix's 'Wednesday', launched in 2022 with Jenna Ortega, gave her a whole new generation of fans. Tim Burton directed several episodes and executive-produced the show, and the school-dance scene set to The Cramps' 'Goo Goo Muck' went viral on its own. The second season arrived in 2025 in two parts. Literary bonus: the school is called Nevermore, a nod to Edgar Allan Poe.
The Tim Burton touch
You can spot Burton's world instantly: black-and-white stripes, spirals, twisted trees, pale figures with huge shadowed eyes, and graveyards that feel more tender than scary. Think 'Beetlejuice', 'Edward Scissorhands' or 'Corpse Bride'. It's a graphic language made for posters, with few colours, strong shapes and the odd splash of violet or acid green.
Ideas for a Wednesday poster wall
- Minimal: one black-and-white Wednesday portrait above the desk.
- Panorama: a long moonlit scene across three posters with 3 cm gaps.
- Soft gothic: muted purple, grey and sage textiles keep a teenager's room dark without being gloomy.
- Double feature: add a classic from Vampires & Dracula for extra chills.
