About this poster
The first chapter of One Piece as a manga page: Luffy with his arms up in colour, Shanks in red and black screentone, and 海賊王におれはなる set vertically.
It all starts with chapter 1, “ROMANCE DAWN —冒険の夜明け—”, the dawn of the adventure. Eiichiro Oda published it in Weekly Shōnen Jump issue 34 of 1997: the series began on 22 July 1997. The chapter's title page is a colour double spread in which Luffy, Nami and Shanks' Red Hair Pirates party in a pile of treasure. And from this very first chapter, Luffy states his dream: 海賊王におれはなる, to become King of the Pirates.
The poster is built like a manga page, with tilted panels and white gutters. The large colour panel shows Luffy with his arms raised, taken from that double spread painted by Oda. On the right, a red band carries ワンピース vertically. Below, a black panel with speed lines holds Luffy's line in vertical Japanese, with “I'M GONNA BE KING OF THE PIRATES!” underneath. Next to it, Shanks in two-ink screentone, black and red, then the title block: 第1話, ROMANCE DAWN, Jump 1997 No. 34, 22.07.1997.
A manga page on the wall
Bright colour at the top, black and red below: the poster brings energy to a bedroom, a reading corner or a desk. Put it near your volume collection, on a light wall that lets the panels breathe.
