The Animals cover, large, a giant ANIMALS, the record laid out as Dogs, Pigs and Sheep, and the dated story of the giant pig that flew away in 1976.
Animals is Pink Floyd's tenth studio album, released on 21 January 1977 in the UK on Harvest and on 12 February 1977 in the US on Columbia. Recorded from April to December 1976 at Britannia Row Studios in London, it reached No. 2 in the UK and No. 3 in the US.
The cover, conceived by Roger Waters and designed by Storm Thorgerson, shows Battersea Power Station with a pink pig between its chimneys. On the poster it fills the whole top half. Below, ANIMALS in giant letters, then the record shown as it is built: DOGS, PIGS and SHEEP held between the two 1:24 halves of “Pigs on the Wing”.
At the bottom, a typewritten log. On 2 December 1976, Algie, a 12-metre helium pig, is raised between the chimneys with a marksman standing by. The next day nobody has booked the marksman: the pig breaks free, drifts over Heathrow, where flights are cancelled, and comes down in a field in Kent. Next to it, a photo of a pig back over Battersea on 26 September 2011.
Light concrete, black and pig pink: it suits a living room, a study or a hallway. 4K-printed on a PVC board about 1 cm thick, it hangs without a frame.
