About this poster

The cover's prism on pure black, its rainbow turned into the album's running time: every track is a cut in the light at its real start time.

The Dark Side of the Moon is Pink Floyd's eighth studio album, released on 1 March 1973 in the US on Capitol and on 16 March 1973 in the UK on Harvest. It was recorded at EMI Studios (Abbey Road) in London between 31 May 1972 and 9 February 1973, with Alan Parsons as engineer. It spent 736 weeks on the US Billboard 200 between March 1973 and July 1988.

The poster keeps the real prism from the cover, set on pure black. The six bands of light leaving it bend down the right edge and become the record's 42:54: each track is a black cut in the light at its real start time, with a wider cut where side one turns into side two. A thin leader links every title to its cut, from “Speak to Me” to “Eclipse”, with length and lead vocals. The light ends in a heartbeat line, as the album opens and closes with one. At the bottom, three numbers: 736 weeks, 45 million copies (industry estimate, 2013) and 42:54.

The prism, seen differently

Deep black and bright colour: it shines on a pale wall, in a living room, a study or next to a turntable. 4K-printed on a PVC board about 1 cm thick, it hangs without a frame.

Sleeve designed by Hipgnosis and George Hardie.
