The real Game Boy DMG-01 in a studio photo, "ゲームボーイ" in giant vertical katakana and 1989 in magenta, styled like a Japanese shop poster.
On 21 April 1989, the Game Boy reached Japanese shops: 1989年4月21日 発売, as the poster says. North America followed on 31 July 1989, then Europe on 28 September 1990. Model DMG-01, a 160 × 144 screen in 4 shades, an 8-bit processor at 4.19 MHz, four AA batteries for up to 30 hours of play: counting the Game Boy Color, it sold 118.69 million units.
On a cream background, the real grey console sits at an angle, shot in a studio, with its green screen, black cross pad and magenta A and B buttons. On the left, "ゲームボーイ" (Game Boy) runs down in giant navy katakana; bottom right, 1989 in large magenta. At the top, 携帯型ゲーム機, "handheld game system", and two magenta and navy lines borrowed from the screen bezel. At the bottom, a grid of six specs in Japanese and English: display, processor, sound, power, size and units sold.
Cream and navy suit a light interior, a minimal desk corner or a Japan-inspired bedroom. 4K print on a PVC board about 1 cm thick, no frame needed.
Console photo: Evan-Amos, public domain (Wikimedia Commons); the Game Boy and its logo remain Nintendo trademarks, and this tribute poster is not an official product.
More consoles are waiting on the Nintendo & Game Boy page, and all the nostalgia in the 90's category.
