The poster is the front of a Game Boy: the Tetris screen rebuilt dot by dot in its four greens, magenta A and B buttons and the speaker grille.
Tetris came out on Game Boy in Japan on 14 June 1989, in North America on 31 July 1989 and in Europe on 28 September 1990. The music is by Hirokazu Tanaka, and the A-TYPE tune is "Korobeiniki", a Russian folk song. By June 2009, more than 35 million copies had been sold.
Here the poster is the console itself: grey plastic, the OFF·ON switch at the top, the slate screen bezel with its lines and "DOT MATRIX WITH STEREO SOUND", the red "BATTERY" LED. On the screen, a real game of Tetris (score 3780, level 3, 32 lines), rebuilt pixel by pixel: each of the 160 × 144 dots measures 1.44 mm, with the gaps and the faint shadow of a real LCD. Below, "TETRIS" in pixel letters, a fact list (A-TYPE, music, dates, sales), the magenta A and B buttons, the speaker grille and a swatch of the four greens.
Hang it above a gaming setup, in a bedroom or in a hallway that needs colour. 4K print on a PVC board about 1 cm thick, no frame needed.
The screen is based on an original capture of the game (© Nintendo / The Tetris Company); Tetris is a trademark of The Tetris Company, and this tribute poster is not an official product.
More consoles are waiting on the Nintendo & Game Boy page, and all the nostalgia in the 90's category.
