The Game Boy DMG-01 drawn as an engineer's blueprint: the three real figures of US patent 5,184,830 in white lines on blue, with its spec sheet.
The Game Boy, model DMG-01, came out in Japan on 21 April 1989, in North America on 31 July 1989 and in Europe on 28 September 1990. Designed at Nintendo R&D1, with Gunpei Yokoi and Satoru Okada, it runs on a Sharp LR35902 processor at 4.19 MHz, shows 160 × 144 pixels on a 2.5-inch LCD and lasts up to 30 hours on four AA batteries. Counting the Game Boy Color, 118.69 million were sold.
US patent 5,184,830, "Compact hand-held video game system", belongs to Nintendo Co., Ltd.; its inventors are Satoru Okada and Shin Kojo, and it was granted on 9 February 1993. The poster takes its three original drawings and redraws them in white: the console in perspective (FIG. 1), its cross-section (FIG. 2) and the front view held in two hands (FIG. 3). Around them sit a fine grid, a frame marked A to K and 1 to 6, "GAME BOY" in tall capitals and a spec table: memory, 4-channel sound, 90 × 148 × 32 mm, release dates.
Blueprint blue works in a study or a gaming room. 4K print on a PVC board about 1 cm thick, no frame needed.
The drawings come from US patent 5,184,830 (a USPTO document, free to reproduce); this is a tribute poster with no official link to Nintendo.
More consoles are waiting on the Nintendo & Game Boy page, and all the nostalgia in the 90's category.
