The Colossal Titan's face looking over the Wall, full frame, with 進撃の巨人 in large type and the manga's opening line, styled as a dark film poster.
Year 845. Eren is ten when the Colossal Titan (超大型巨人) appears and breaks the gate of Shiganshina, the southernmost district of Wall Maria. The Colossal stands 60 metres tall; the Walls, about 50. It is the scene of chapter 1 and the first episode, 二千年後の君へ, “To You, in 2000 Years”.
The poster is framed like a dark film poster. At the top, full frame, the Colossal's face looking over the Wall in orange light and steam, then a fade to black. On the right, set vertically: その日、人類は思い出した, literally “that day, humanity remembered”, the start of the prologue's first sentence. Below, 進撃の巨人 in large type, ATTACK ON TITAN in red, then the full sentence in Kodansha's English translation: “That day, the human race remembered the terror of being dominated by them and the shame of being held captive in a birdcage.” At the very bottom, the two heights, 60 m and 50 m, and the author's name, Hajime Isayama (諫山創).
The image keeps the hazy softness of the episode, backlight and steam: it is meant to be seen from across the room. The black lower half lets it work on a dark wall as well as a white one, in a bedroom, a living room or a TV corner.
