About this poster
A poster split in two: a giant purple 8 and Kobe in 1999 on top, a giant gold 24 and Kobe in 2014 below. Both his numbers, retired by the Lakers in 2017.
Kobe Bryant (1978–2020) wore two numbers for the Los Angeles Lakers: 8 from 1996 to 2006, then 24 from 2006 to 2016. The club retired both on 18 December 2017. This purple and gold poster gives each one half.
The 8 on top, the 24 below
On top, on gold, a huge purple 8 and a young Kobe in 1999, purple No. 8 jersey, arms raised for a free throw. The caption reads “1996 — 2006 · 3 NBA titles · 81 points”: the titles of 2000, 2001 and 2002, and the 81 points against Toronto in January 2006.
Below, the colours flip: purple ground, a huge gold 24 and Kobe in 2014, gold No. 24 jersey, mid-dribble. The caption reads “2006 — 2016 · 2 NBA titles · 2 Finals MVP · MVP 2008”: the titles of 2009 and 2010, his two Finals MVP awards and his 2007-08 season MVP. Between the halves, a dark band: “Kobe Bryant · Both numbers retired · 18 · 12 · 2017”.
Lakers colours carry across a room: above a bed, in a basketball fan's bedroom, a gym or a hallway.
