About this poster
Kobe Bryant in the gold No. 8 jersey, set for a free throw beneath a giant MAMBA, with his definition of the Mamba Mentality from his 2018 book. Black and gold.
Kobe Bryant (1978–2020) played twenty NBA seasons, all of them with the Los Angeles Lakers, from 1996 to 2016. In 2018 he published The Mamba Mentality: How I Play, a book about the way he played and worked. In it he defines that mindset in a few lines, and the poster carries the first three sentences word for word:
“The mindset isn't about seeking a result—it's more about the process of getting to that result. It's about the journey and the approach. It's a way of life.”
Black, gold and a free throw
The background is black, with a faint snakeskin texture and a golden glow. A huge off-white MAMBA runs behind Kobe's head; he wears the gold No. 8 jersey, ball in hand, eyes on the rim before a free throw. Below, M E N T A L I T Y in widely spaced gold letters, then the quote in capitals, with “It's a way of life.” picked out in gold. In one corner, in small type: “1978 — 2020”.
Hang it in a bedroom, above a desk or in a gym: a line about the work, not about winning.
