The Mercedes-Benz W196 raced in Formula 1 in 1954 and 1955. It made its debut at the 1954 French Grand Prix in Reims with a one-two: Juan Manuel Fangio first, Karl Kling second. In all it won 9 of its 12 races, and Fangio was world champion in both 1954 and 1955. Designed by Rudolf Uhlenhaut, it used a 2496 cm³ straight-eight with desmodromic valves and direct fuel injection.
The poster is set on cream: "Silberpfeil", German for silver arrow, in red, then W196 in huge black letters, with "9 wins in 12 races · Fangio · Moss" at the side. In the middle, the 1955 car large and side-on, silver bodywork and a red number 8. Below it, a photo strip shows Stirling Moss at the wheel at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2014, waving. At the bottom: seasons, races, wins and titles, then the technical line.
Cream, silver and red go with wood, leather and light walls: a living room, a study or a tidy garage. Next to a modern car like the RB16B, it shows how far the sport has come.
