About Slipknot
Slipknot posters: nine masks in black and white, the scratched red logo and the tribal S sigil. A raw, industrial and terrifying mood.
Des Moines, Iowa, 1995. Far from the big scenes of Los Angeles and New York, a collective of musicians decides to play in masks and work jumpsuits, with two extra percussionists on top of the drummer. Slipknot is born, and a Slipknot poster keeps all of that visual impact: nine figures, nine faces, one block.
Nine masks, numbers and jumpsuits
For more than a decade the band toured as a nine-piece, each member carrying a number from 0 to 8: Sid Wilson was 0, Corey Taylor 8, Shawn "Clown" Crahan 6, and so on. Stitched onto the jumpsuits, those numbers became a code every fan knows by heart.
Around the 1999 debut the jumpsuits were red; for Iowa in 2001 they turned to darker shades. The masks change with every record, so you can almost date a photo just by looking at Corey Taylor's. Shawn Crahan's clown mask, battered and reworked over the years, is one of the most recognisable faces in the band's story. From Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) in 2004 to The End, So Far in 2022, that constant reinvention makes Slipknot one of the most visual bands in metal.
Slipknot wall art ideas
Nine members, nine masks: a 3 × 3 grid of portraits almost suggests itself on a big bedroom wall. Keep the gaps identical, around 3 cm, so the nine faces read as a single block. With less space, a single print of the full line-up on a rust or concrete-grey background already hits hard. Industrial tones, brick red, steel, black, look great under cool lighting.
To extend the mood, pair it with System of a Down or Linkin Park, the other pillars of the nu metal wave, and explore the metal category.
