“أعطني الناي وغنِّ”, give me the nay and sing: these are the opening words of the refrain of “Al-Mawakib” (The Processions), a poem by Gibran Khalil Gibran published in 1919. Fairuz sang it as “أعطني الناي”, to music by Najib Hankash. The nay is the reed flute.
On the poster, Fairuz appears in a 1971 portrait, long hair and large hoop earrings, printed in a navy duotone. It sits inside a Lebanese-style arched window, traced with a thin terracotta double line. The background fades from the pale blue of early morning to peach. Below come the line in large Ruq'a calligraphy, its English and French translation, the name فيروز / FAIRUZ, and the credits: words by Gibran Khalil Gibran, music by Najib Hankash.
Soft colours and plenty of space around the portrait: it calms a bedroom, a reading corner or a kitchen that catches the morning sun. It goes well with light wood, linen and plants.
