Liveries, numbers and straight lines.

Before sponsors took over, racing cars wore their country's colours: green for Britain, blue for France, red for Italy, white and later silver for Germany. Then came liveries, the graphic outfits that turn bodywork into a moving billboard. A motorsport poster celebrates exactly that: colour, numbers and straight lines.
Some liveries are more famous than the cars that wore them. Gulf's powder blue and orange, a Le Mans winner on the Ford GT40 before starring on the Porsche 917. Martini's navy, light blue and red stripes, seen in endurance racing and rallying alike. The Le Mans 24 Hours, first run in 1923, has been the catwalk for all of them.
What makes these images so strong is their restraint: a white roundel with a number, two or three stripes, one base colour. It is almost pure graphic design, which is why it works so well on a wall. Numbers carry their own weight, too: drivers keep favourites for years, and fans wear them on caps and shirts.
Two liveries side by side capture the idea: one clean and modern in blue and red, the other heading back to the 1970s in orange and teal, each with its own race number. Together they make a vintage-meets-modern pair that works above a desk or in a garage. Hang them about 3 cm apart, the same gap used between wall-set panels, and the pair instantly looks tidy and deliberate.
For a full wall, add a car from our Porsche page or a single-seater from Formula 1. Wall sets, one image across several posters hung 3 cm apart, give you a big, dramatic format too.
