About PlayStation 1

PlayStation 1 posters: the grey console and its controller, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken 3, Metal Gear Solid and GTA 2. Triangle, circle, cross and square as retro decor.

A black screen, the diamond logo, that deep swelling start-up sound. Just thinking about it, you can hear it. A PS1 poster is the memory of long afternoons on one sofa, grey controller in hand, and a memory card that announced "full" at the worst possible moment.

The console that changed dimension

The PlayStation launched in Japan on 3 December 1994 and in Europe on 29 September 1995. With it, gaming moved for good into 3D and onto CD. The titles that followed became generational landmarks: Crash Bandicoot (1996), Final Fantasy VII and Gran Turismo (1997), Metal Gear Solid (1998).

The memory card, meanwhile, held 15 blocks. Fifteen. You had to choose, delete and negotiate with your siblings.

Four symbols, four colours

The PS1's real design genius is in the controller. Designer Teiyu Goto replaced the usual letters with simple shapes: the triangle (green) stands for a point of view, like a head; the square (pink) is a sheet of paper, for menus; the circle (red) and the cross (blue) mean yes and no.

Those four symbols became a logo in their own right. On a poster they work as pure graphic pattern: four soft colours on light grey or black, readable from across the room and understood by anyone who ever held a pad.

In your setup

Over a modern gaming desk, a PS1 print builds a neat bridge between your first console and your current rig. The greys and pastels also sit nicely in a white-walled room with light wood.

For a proper retro wall, pair it with Nintendo & Game Boy and the glow of the arcade.

Each poster is printed in Tunisia and paid for on delivery. Memory card full, memories intact.
