About Tapes & Mixtapes

Tape and mixtape posters: Memphis colours, zigzags and compilations recorded off the radio.

Side A, side B, and a pencil to rewind when the Walkman batteries ran low. Before playlists there was the tape: you recorded the radio, finger hovering over pause to cut before the jingle, and wrote the track list by hand on the inlay card. A cassette tape poster salutes the tiny object that could hold a whole summer.

A small box that changed everything

Philips introduced the compact audio cassette at the Berlin Radio Show in 1963. Within a few years it was everywhere: in cars, hi-fis, pockets. In 1979 Sony launched the Walkman, and music became portable, personal, yours alone.

Across the Arab world, the cassette was also the backbone of popular music, copied, swapped and sold on market stalls. A mixtape made for someone was a love letter that didn't need to say so.

Colours that smell of the nineties

The cassette look mixes the object's simple shapes, two reels, a window, a label, with the pop palette of the era: hot pink, teal, bright yellow, geometric patterns. Memphis style, with its zigzags, dots and confetti, is its best friend.

Cassette prints on your wall

Picture an audio cassette in pink, teal and yellow: simple, cheerful, lovely above a desk or in a bright bedroom. Or the cover of the compilation you used to tape off the radio, with Memphis shapes, zigzags and confetti.

Together they make a colourful pair for a music corner or a teenager's room. Add a 90s hip-hop print, from the golden age of tapes swapped between friends.

Each poster is printed in Tunisia, delivered nationwide and paid for on delivery. Press play.
