About Retro Computers
Retro computer posters: grey windows, progress bars and the sound of the modem.
The screech of a 56k modem, that song of beeps and hisses meaning "you might actually get online this time". Then a progress bar crawling forward one block every ten seconds. A retro computer poster is nostalgia for a time when the internet had to be earned.
The grey years
The big moment came in August 1995 with Windows 95: the Start button, the taskbar and that flat teal desktop that millions of eyes stared at for hours. Even the start-up sound has a story: it was composed by Brian Eno, on a Mac.
Around the screen, a whole set: the beige tower, the bulging CRT monitor, 1.44 MB floppy disks, Minesweeper and Solitaire to pass the time. In Tunisia, plenty of people first met the web at the local Publinet, paying by the hour and keeping one eye on the clock.
An aesthetic turned cult
What was once purely functional became graphic. Raised grey windows, bevelled buttons, pixel icons, the system font, the hourglass cursor. And that exact palette: light grey, navy title bars, teal desktop. Today this retro-tech style inspires designers and artists, and it looks great on a wall.
Retro tech on your wall
A grey window and its progress bar on that classic teal are all it takes, with the modem noise already playing in your head. It belongs above a desk, in a developer's corner or in a gamer's room with a sense of irony.
For a full geek wall, pair it with the PlayStation 1 or the Nintendo & Game Boy world: three screens, three memories.
Each poster is printed in Tunisia, delivered nationwide and paid for on delivery. Loading complete.
