About Sega & Sonic

Sega & Sonic posters: the blue hedgehog on Green Hill's checkerboard, golden rings, black-grid Mega Drive boxes and the SEGA logo. Speed, the 16-bit way.

Too slow? Sonic's already cleared the zone. Sega's blue hedgehog was born to run, and a Sonic poster has to keep that rush: streaks of colour, flying rings, the grin of someone who isn't going to wait for you.

A hedgehog versus a plumber

In the early nineties Sega wanted a mascot to take on Mario. An internal contest was won by a blue hedgehog designed by Naoto Ohshima. With programming led by Yuji Naka, the first Sonic the Hedgehog arrived in 1991 on the Mega Drive, Sega's 16-bit console. The "SEGA!" shout on the title screen became instantly iconic.

In 1992 Sonic 2 gave him a sidekick: Tails, the twin-tailed fox created by Yasushi Yamaguchi. The pair became the emblem of an era when you picked your side in the playground: Sega or Nintendo.

Blue, gold and checkerboard

The Sonic look is ruthlessly effective. The hero's electric blue, red trainers with a white strap, the chime of golden rings. And above all Green Hill Zone: brown checkerboard ground, palm trees, loops, a bright blue sky and glittering water. Rich, colourful 16-bit pixel art bursting with momentum.

On a wall that vocabulary works both as pure nostalgia, with the original sprites, and as clean graphics, just a silhouette and a scatter of rings.

On your wall

A Sonic print brings energy and colour to a teenager's room or a gaming desk that has gone a bit too dark. The blue and gold pop especially well against white or pale grey.

To restage the console wars as decor, hang it opposite the Nintendo & Game Boy world, then finish with a neon arcade print.

Each poster is printed in Tunisia, delivered nationwide and paid for at the door. Gotta go fast.
