Football on our walls: the Tunis derby, the Carthage Eagles and Tunisian legends

From the capital's derby to the Carthage Eagles and legends at home and abroad: how Tunisian football culture translates into wall art, and how to style a proper fan's bedroom.

· 4 min read

In Tunisia, football doesn't stop at the final whistle. It carries on in the cafés, on balconies draped in flags, in chants still echoing down the street hours after the game. No wonder it finds its way onto bedroom walls too. Football posters do the same job as a scarf: they say who you are and who your heart belongs to. Here's how that passion turns into images, and how to put it on display with some style.

A culture lived in colour

Tunisian football is, first of all, about colours. Red and yellow, red and white, black and white: every big club has its palette, recognisable from a distance on a shirt, a flag or a neighbourhood wall.

On the terraces, supporters have turned that visual identity into an art form. Tifos covering entire ends, hand-painted banners, flares lighting up the night sky: the world of ultras and stadiums is one of the richest sources of inspiration for a poster. It has graphic punch, drama and raw emotion all at once.

The capital's derby: two colours, one fever

You can't talk football in Tunis without the derby. On one side, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, founded in 1919 in Bab Souika, its blazing red and yellow known as the Sang et Or. On the other, Club Africain, born in 1920 and proud of its red and white. Two clubs almost the same age, fighting over the heart of the capital for more than a century.

On derby nights the whole city holds its breath. Families split down the middle: brothers, cousins, next-door neighbours. And that is exactly what makes the rivalry so special. It only lives because the other side exists.

Still, the derby isn't the whole story. The Sahel has Étoile Sportive du Sahel, whose red and white electrify Sousse; Sfax has Club Sportif Sfaxien in black and white. Every region has its faithful, and every one of them deserves wall space.

The Carthage Eagles: the flag above all

When the Tunisia national team plays, club rivalries fade. The whole country lines up behind the red and white of the flag, and behind the eagle.

The Carthage Eagles have given African football some of its finest moments. In 1978, in Argentina, Tunisia became the first African side to win a World Cup match, beating Mexico. In 2004 they lifted the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil. In 2022, in Qatar, they claimed a win over France. And for 2026, the team secured its seventh qualification for a World Cup finals.

In a household where nobody supports the same club, an Eagles poster is often the one thing everyone agrees on.

Legends from home and abroad

Every generation has its heroes. Tarak Dhiab, the playmaker of Espérance and the national team, remains the only Tunisian to have won the African Ballon d'Or, in 1977. Hammadi Agrebi, the CS Sfaxien great, was nicknamed the magician for his touch on the ball.

Tunisian walls happily make room for global stars as well, from Messi to Ronaldo. Legendary players work especially well as posters: a silhouette, a gesture or a number on the back of a shirt can tell an entire career.

Styling a fan's bedroom

A great fan's room doesn't look like a souvenir stall. It has a clear identity. A few ideas:

  • Turn your colours into the room's palette. If your club plays in red and yellow, echo those shades in the bedding or a cushion. The posters then feel like a natural extension of the room.
  • Build a hierarchy. Your club in the middle, the national team beside it, an international legend to complete the line-up. Three posters in a row above the bed and the story tells itself.
  • Recreate the terraces. A poster of a smoke-filled stand, a scarf stretched above it, a red accent lamp: instant match-night atmosphere.
  • Mix past and present. A 1970s legend next to today's star sparks a conversation between generations, perfect in a bedroom shared by brothers.
  • Don't forget the gaming corner. Above the console, between rounds of your favourite football game, a stadium poster keeps the immersion going.

Respect belongs on the wall too

You can love your club fiercely without belittling anyone else's. The best fan walls celebrate pride, not hatred. Choose images that show what you love: the surge of a counter-attack, the roar of the crowd, the beauty of the game.

Espérance, Club Africain, Étoile, Sfaxien or simply behind the Eagles, your passion deserves a wall worthy of it. Every team and every legend is waiting in our football collection.
